At a rate of six actual people detained at the southern border who matched up with the terrorist watchlists, and the current demand of 5.7 billion for a wall to secure the border, that's almost $1 billion per possible terrorist.
That's a lot of money per terrorist, and it's money we’re probably not getting from Mexico in the form of pesos. And the Federal Government, already racking up a huge deficit every year thanks to the unfounded corporate tax give-away, doesn't exactly have spare bucketsful of dollars sitting around. So, you know, we're not paying cash for that wall.
We're going to be borrowing it and paying interest on it forever. 2.5% interest on even the laughably, ridiculously lowball 5.7 billion figure is $142 million per year (for an actual wall spanning the entire 2000 mile border, try multiplying the $5.7 billion by 10, or 20...so even with the lower multiplier that would be $1.4 billion/year in interest even at today's low interest rates)
And that that doesn't include maintenance. How much to maintain an almost-2000-mile long border, that spans many uninhabited areas where Home Depots & the labor needed to transform materials from Home Depots into wall maintenance are in short supply. One estimate for maintenance is $175 million/year, and that's probably also very low.
So, almost 1.6 billion/year to pay the carrying costs for the stupid wall, at six potential terrorists per year, that's about $270 million per possible southern-border terrorist per year. Forever.
But would it be money well spent? Probably not — the actual terrorists who really did perpetrate a serious attack -- 9/11 -- were in the country legally on tourist visas. They flew in on airplanes, they didn't trek across the desert from Mexico.
Real terrorists who are serious about attacking the country would look out the window as they fly over the stupid wall, and laugh at us.
Real terrorists use the Internet to make us attack ourselves.
