So, somehow I've gotten on the conservative sucker list. Previous diaries have detailed calls from Mike Huckabee, which were somewhat more depressing than this one tonight.
It's important to remember that all of the flunkies who are working for the GOP are actually on our side. So let's f*ck with them, why not?
This evening's telephone du nuit was from Romney. Apparently he's taken over Mike Huckabee's phone list. Or his superpac has (donations to which are not tax deductible).
As usual, I listen to the pre-recorded message, waiting to press "1" to see what the night will bring.
The fellow who is asking for money is not the usual beaten-down sounding female. He actually sounds kind of nice. So, after he asks me for $100, I say,
"You're kidding me, right? I mean, you're sitting there making telemarketing calls, earning, what, ten bucks an hour with benefits if you're lucky? So, you kidding me? How can you make these calls with a straight face?"
And, I swear, the guy starts to crack up...
He ups the request first to $250, but I can hear him giggling, and I ask him "Seriously, I can see why you have to do this, you have to make money for the food and the rent, but you, you personally, you're going to vote for Obama, right?"
And he ups the request again, laughing harder and harder, until he can barely say the words.
I say, "Obama, right? You gotta know he's the one, personally, Obama, right?"
and he says "It's been great to talk to you tonight"
and I say "you too, you really made my evening fun. Obama 2012!"
and, as they say, finis.
Remember, we're all on the same side. The cops who are oppressing the OWS folks, they're making their money and barely making their rent. The telemarketers who are calling to get money for Rove and his flunkies, they're worried about their kids and their health insurance. Nobody knows how they're going to pay for retirement. Everybody's worried, and we're ALL on the same side.
