Makers and Fakers: Brexit, Donald Trump, and Hillary

Hillary needs to wrap Donald Trump in the chains of the class of exploiters to win this election with the margins that we will need going forward to confront the huge challenges looming on the horizon.

Here is what Neil Farage said in his victory-after-premature-concession speech early this morning:

“The dawn is breaking over an independent United Kingdom,” Farage declared. “This will be a victory for real people, a victory for ordinary people, a victory for decent people. We have fought against the multinationals. We have fought against the big merchant banks. We have fought against the big parties.” Turning to the E.U., the object of his loathing, Farage went on, “I hope this victory brings down this failed project.”

Hillary Clinton is not the perfect spokesman for populism and the everyday person, but she is, on paper at least, way better than Donald Trump.

I want to reformulate the old “makers” v “takers” trope. I want to recast as “makers” the workers -- the soldiers, the McDonalds burger flippers and Walmart greeters, the Hispanic tomato pickers and underpaid Days Inn housekeepers.

We need to recast the makers as the people who actually do the work. What good are “job creators” without people to actually do the job? Who really builds the bridge? Is it the guy who floats the bond to rip off the pension fund for the purposes of skimming off 6% on which he pays no taxes, or is it the guy or woman in the welding helmet?

Which kind of money should the tax system incentivize the making of? Which work benefits society more? Is it the work of building the bridge, or is it the work of picking up the phone to call your wealth advisor? Which work is harder work?  Is it picking tomatoes in the hot sun? or is it inventing obscure financial products which seem like they might be working for a while until they destroy the economy?

I want to replace “taker” with “faker”— Donald Trump...the guys who are born into or grift their way into (or both in the case of Trump) obscene wealth. This wealth does not reward the obscenely wealthy person, who has more than he or she could spend in a lifetime (what is the size of the coin that makes it worth while for the six seconds it would take Bill Gates to bend down and pick it up? Neil De Grasse Tyson thinks it’s a $45,000 bill).

Trump is a faker. He is not an everyman. He is a guy who claims to want to create jobs, but who is famous for firing people.

Faker.

The current phase of America in decline is not called “casino capitalism” for nothing. And this is a guy who *builds actual casinos*. First he rips off the people who build the casinos by not paying them what they are owed, what he is contractually obligated to pay, then after the casinos are built, he can’t even make money by ripping off the people who gamble, then he goes public and rips off the investors and bondholders.

“Now, I’ll tell you, I’m good at that – so, you know, I’ve always taken in money,” he said at a rally in Iowa. “I like money. I’m very greedy. I’m a greedy person. I shouldn’t tell you that, I’m a greedy – I’ve always been greedy. I love money, right?
“But, you know what? I want to be greedy for our country. I want to be greedy. I want to be so greedy for our country. I want to take back money,” he added.

First part True. “Greedy for our contry?” Pants on Fire. Faker.

Rich?

Let’s see the tax returns. He showed tax returns to the casino commission to get permission to build casinos because he had to. So a casino commission can see the returns but the American people can’t?

Zero income.

Faker.

Who is the real taker? Trump. Who is the rube? Anybody who lets this snake-oil salesman rip away his or her vote.

Faker

Scammer

Taker

Loser

Take back the country. Billionaires should pay taxes. A nation of hardworking men and women don’t need to be told “You’re Fired”.
