The democrats should say...now...that they will not support their members voting for an increase in the debt limit as long as the GOP is irresponsibly piling additional trillions of dollars in giveaways to corporations and to the wealthy.
They should say, “when your teenager crashes the car, you don’t give him a new car...that’s the wrong message.”
They should say, “the Republicans have enough votes to pass this tax giveaway to corporations without any democratic votes, so they should have enough votes to increase the debt limit that this tax giveaway is going to strain.”
Democrats should start taking the mantle of the stern dad away from the Republicans.
Democrats should say “you broke it, you buy it”
I think it’s a message that would resonate with those few Republicans that aren’t bat-shit crazy.
Would it crash the economy? probably not. If it did crash the economy, isn’t that something that is likely to happen anyhow?
What are we looking at with Donald Trump and his band of merry enablers? war with N. Korea? another bubble as the result of pumping additional cash into a hot economy? global warming accelerated? regulations struck down? Are we cruising for an economic bruising no matter what Democrats do? I would say yes, and if it’s going to happen anyway, let’s tie it to this abomination of a tax bill that everybody already hates, and let’s make the effect occur very, very close to an obvious cause.
