It's time to reframe Reagan's famous scornful line:
"I'm from the government, and I'm here to help"
Let's make this one feel good again.
The government isn't them, it's us.
The framers of the Constitution didn't say "Let's create 'The United Holdings Corp, LLC of Conglomerated Subsidiary Geographical Corporate Entities."
They said "We the People of the United States, in Order to...promote the general Welfare to ourselves and our posterity..."
Government is the way we help us help each other, when the job is too big to do alone.
We are firemen, we are workers in the EPA making sure water is safe to drink, we are the folks repairing our roads and bridges, we are developing vaccines, we are schoolteachers, we are soldiers.
We are doing the important jobs to help "ourselves and our posterity..." We're doing our job because our job is worth doing. We are government, and we're here to help.
