The world could be better. We could have a better President. It would be nicer if we had more elected representatives in the House and the Senate that a) were Democrats, and b) were more progressive Democrats.
It would be great if we hadn’t been shooting a gazillion tons of carbon into the atmosphere every year since 1940 causing the entire planet to warm up.
Too many people are killed by bad cops.
Too many people kill people with guns.
Too many people are insensitive, and/or are bigots, and/or are mean.
OTOH
The President, President Obama, is pretty damn good. Also, he is african american.
OK, we still need more representative in the House, and in the Senate, who are Democrats. And even more-so, we need more Progressive Democrats. OTOH, whenever the entire country votes, we pretty much elect Democrats.
We aren’t as worried about mutually assured destruction as we used to. And this wasn’t so long ago. Forty years ago, most kids were pretty sure that we were at least 50% likely to bomb each other into extinction. So, global warming versus nuclear winter? I’ll take global warming (at least there is a longer ramp-up)!

OK, the gun thing sucks.
Gay people can get married! People are still assholes, but at least they are marginally more quiet about it.
